  • The hotel alternative in Baden-Baden: The private designer residence in the Black Forest Loft

More space than a hotel room. More character than an ordinary holiday apartment. Not just an overnight stay. Arriving in Baden-Baden. Hotel or holiday apartment? Perhaps that's the wrong question. Many travelers begin their search for accommodation in Baden-Baden with a seemingly simple question: hotel or vacation rental? But often this question isn't the crucial one at all. The real issue is something else: How would you like to stay in Baden-Baden? Do you just want a place to sleep – or would you like to arrive for a few days? Do you want a room where you can sleep, shower, and leave? Or do you wish for a place where you can enjoy a peaceful coffee in the morning, linger during the day, return in the evening, and feel: I can stay here. The Black Forest Loft lies precisely between these two worlds. The central idea The Black Forest Loft is not a traditional hotel. And it's not an ordinary holiday apartment. It's a private designer residence in Baden-Baden – created for people who seek comfort but don't want to sacrifice freedom. If a hotel room doesn't offer enough space A good hotel can offer many things: service, breakfast, reception, spa, a central location, and the feeling of being well cared for. For some stays, this is ideal. Those staying only one night, arriving late, and departing early are often perfectly happy in a hotel room. Those who desire daily room service, a large breakfast buffet, or classic concierge service will also find excellent hotels in Baden-Baden. However, as soon as a stay is intended to be more than just a short overnight stay, the needs change. Perhaps you get up earlier than your partner. Perhaps you don't want to go straight to the breakfast room in the morning. Perhaps after a visit to the Caracalla Spa or the Friedrichsbad, you don't want to go out again, but rather walk barefoot around the apartment, have a light meal, listen to music, and let the evening wind down peacefully. All of that quickly becomes cramped in a hotel room. If a holiday apartment doesn't have enough character A vacation apartment offers more freedom. You have more space, a kitchen, a living area, and usually more privacy. But even here, there are significant differences. Many vacation rentals are practical but interchangeable. They serve their purpose but don't feel like special places. They have a kitchen, a sofa, a bed, and perhaps a parking space – but little atmosphere. The Black Forest Loft pursues a different goal. It 's not just meant to function. It's meant to feel good. hotel room often just one bed and one bathroom fixed breakfast times little retreat Hotel operations and common areas ordinary holiday apartment more freedom more space but often interchangeable little sense of design and space The solution Comfort, freedom, design and atmosphere – all in one place. The historic rooms of the former Batschari cigarette factory, dating back to 1908, with their high ceilings, generous windows, tranquil design, and modern interior, create a living experience that is distinctly different from a typical vacation apartment. Here, the freedom of your own apartment meets the atmosphere of a truly special place. For people who seek comfort in a hotel – and freedom in a holiday apartment The Black Forest Loft is designed for travelers who don't think in categories. For people who appreciate high-quality accommodations but don't necessarily need the full hotel experience. For couples who want to spend a relaxing weekend in Baden-Baden. For guests seeking peace and quiet but not wanting to be isolated. For people who prefer to stay in their accommodation during the day rather than having to spend every moment outdoors. For travelers who want more space than a hotel room can offer. And for all those who not only want to visit Baden-Baden, but actually live there for a few days. More space for different daily rhythms Especially when traveling as a couple, space makes a big difference. If one person is up early and the other wants to sleep in, a hotel room quickly becomes a compromise. Turn off the lights. Be quiet. Wait in the bathroom. Use your phone in bed. Things are different in the Black Forest Loft. Whoever gets up earlier goes to the living area, makes coffee, reads, works briefly on their laptop, or plans their day. The other person can continue sleeping in the bedroom. That sounds like a small difference. On vacation, it feels much bigger. Because true relaxation often happens precisely where you don't constantly have to consider the limitations of a space. Eine eigene Küche bedeutet nicht, im Urlaub kochen zu müssen. Sie bedeutet Freiheit. Having your own kitchen means not having to cook. It means freedom. Baden-Baden has many good restaurants, cafés, and breakfast spots. Nevertheless, it's nice not to be dependent on opening hours, reservations, or hotel buffets for every meal. Having your own kitchen doesn't mean you have to cook constantly on vacation. It means freedom. A coffee in the morning. Fresh fruit from the market. A light breakfast in your pajamas. A glass of wine in the evening. Something simple after a long day in the city. Or a quiet evening when you're tired of restaurants and crowds. This freedom is hard to explain, but easy to feel. It transforms a place into a temporary home. Experience Baden-Baden at your own pace Baden-Baden is not a city to be ticked off your list. It thrives on taking breaks. On strolls along the Lichtentaler Allee. On afternoons spent at the Caracalla Spa or the Friedrichsbad. On evenings at the Festspielhaus. On small cafés, quiet streets, parks, and views of the Black Forest. The Black Forest Loft is perfect for this type of travel. Not because it dictates how your stay should be, but because it gives you the space to do so. You can start slowly in the morning, return during the day, change clothes, rest, read, cook, work, or simply do nothing. You don't have to be constantly on the go for the stay to be worthwhile. The accommodation itself becomes part of the journey. Arrive stress-free: underground parking garage and wallbox Anyone who travels to Baden-Baden by car knows that parking can be an issue. Especially in a city with narrow streets, historic buildings, thermal baths, a festival hall, and many visitors, a secure parking space is a real advantage. At Schwarzwald Loft, underground parking is included with your stay. You arrive, park directly in the building, unload your luggage, and don't have to worry about finding a parking space during your stay. Guests with electric cars can charge their vehicles directly at their parking space. The wallbox makes their stay particularly convenient – especially for those who want to combine Baden-Baden with excursions into the Black Forest. This way, the holiday doesn't begin with the search for a parking space, but with the feeling of having arrived. Peace, privacy, and a place where you want to stay. Hotels have their own vibrancy: lobby, reception, breakfast room, corridors, elevators, other guests. That can be pleasant. But sometimes it can also be unsettling. In the Black Forest Loft, you have more privacy. You come and go as you please. You have breakfast when you please. You spend the evening as you please. Without fixed hours. Without lobbying. Without feeling like you're part of a company. This privacy is not a loud luxury. It is quiet. And that is precisely why it is so valuable. Design without staging The Black Forest Loft doesn't want to imitate a hotel. Nor does it want to be a run-of-the-mill vacation apartment. The design is calm, high-quality, and deliberately understated. Modern furniture, warm materials, clean lines, and the historic architecture of the former factory combine to create a space that doesn't feel artificial. Nothing clamors for attention. And yet, the room leaves a lasting impression. Perhaps it's because of the height. Perhaps it's because of the light. Perhaps it's because of the building's history. Perhaps it's because of the feeling that this wasn't simply a place of decoration, but rather a place that was given new life. Comfortable for short stays. Ideal for longer stays. The Black Forest Loft is suitable for a weekend getaway for two as well as for longer stays. After two or three nights, you immediately notice the difference: more space, more peace and quiet, more possibilities. Over a week or longer, this becomes a real gain in comfort. You don't live out of a suitcase. You can store clothes, take in shopping, dry swimwear, work in between, stay home in the evenings, and make your stay flexible. This feeling of living is particularly pleasant for spa holidays, cultural trips, visits to the festival hall, home office days or a conscious break. Not suitable for everyone. But just right for many. The Black Forest Loft isn't for everyone. Those seeking daily room service, a breakfast buffet, an in-house spa, and a 24-hour reception will feel more comfortable in a traditional hotel. However, those looking for more space, more privacy, and a more independent pace will find a unique alternative here. Accommodation that combines the comfort of a high-quality stay with the freedom of your own apartment. A place for people who don't just want to see Baden-Baden, but want to live there for a few days. The private designer residence in Baden-Baden The Black Forest Loft is a private designer accommodation in Baden-Baden for people who are looking for more than a hotel room and expect more than an ordinary vacation apartment. More space. More peace and quiet. More freedom. A private parking space. A wallbox for electric vehicles. A fully equipped kitchen. A high-quality living experience. And the atmosphere of a listed building steeped in history. Those who want to truly experience Baden-Baden won't find a typical hotel stay here. Instead, they'll find a temporary home. A place to live, not just sleep. Would you like to experience Baden-Baden at your own pace? Discover the Black Forest Loft – with more space, more peace and more freedom than in a classic hotel room.

  • Why the Black Forest Loft is not an ordinary holiday apartment

They are not staying in a holiday apartment. They are staying in a former cigarette factory dating back to 1908. Ehemalige Zigarettenfabrik A. Batschari in Baden-Baden um 1910 mit Arbeitern vor dem Fabrikgebäude. Historische Industriearchitektur der späteren Schwarzwald Loft Ferienwohnungen im denkmalgeschützten Batschari Palais. Those looking for a vacation rental will find a wide selection in Baden-Baden. Many offer good amenities, a central location, or a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. The Black Forest Loft, however, doesn't begin with a list of amenities. It begins with a story. Before people spent their holidays here, these rooms were the scene of industrial history. The listed building of the former Batschari cigarette factory is one of Baden-Baden's most iconic structures. Where guests now enjoy breakfast, hundreds of people once worked. Where light now streams through tall windows, millions of cigarettes were manufactured. You can still feel this history today. And that's precisely why the Black Forest Loft doesn't feel like an ordinary holiday apartment. A place with character, not just a cookie-cutter accommodation. Many vacation apartments are functionally furnished. They serve their purpose. The Black Forest Loft takes a different approach. The historic walls, the generous windows, and the exceptional ceiling heights tell the story of the building's past. At the same time, modern furniture, high-quality materials, and a serene design ensure that the history doesn't feel like a museum, but rather like contemporary living. Here, industrial heritage and design meet. Not loudly and spectacularly, but quietly, authentically, and naturally. Living instead of just sleeping Most hotel rooms are designed for one night. The Black Forest Loft is designed for days. Perhaps even for weeks. Early risers can start their morning with a cup of coffee in the living area while their partner is still asleep. Those returning from an excursion have space to read, cook, or relax. There's room for different daily rhythms. That's precisely what makes the difference. You're not just booking a bed in Baden-Baden. You're booking space, peace, and freedom. More space for your rhythm For many people, a vacation means finally not having to look at the clock. No breakfast buffet that closes at ten o'clock. No hotel lobby. No crowded common areas. In the Black Forest Loft, you decide how your day unfolds. The fully equipped kitchen allows for a relaxed breakfast at your own pace. The spacious living area provides room for shared time and personal moments of retreat. The underground garage with your own parking space eliminates the hassle of searching for parking in a city where space is often scarce. It 's precisely these little freedoms that transform a stay into a temporary home. The private underground parking space eliminates the search for parking in a city where spaces are often limited. Guests travelling with an electric vehicle can conveniently charge their car directly at the parking space, making their stay even more relaxed. A piece of Baden-Baden history Baden-Baden is known worldwide for its Belle Époque architecture, its thermal baths, and its elegant spa tradition. Less well-known is the city's industrial history. The Batschari cigarette factory was once one of Baden-Baden's most important employers. The company was renowned far beyond the region and wrote a significant chapter in German industrial and design history. Today, this place lives on. Not as a museum. Not as a backdrop. But as an exceptional living space. For people who are looking for something special The Black Forest Loft isn't the right accommodation for everyone. Those seeking daily room service, a hotel lobby, and a breakfast buffet will feel more comfortable in a traditional hotel. However, those looking for a place with history, character, and personality will find something rare here: a vacation apartment that doesn't try to be like a hotel, but instead has the courage to remain unique. The Schwarzwald Loft is an extraordinary holiday apartment in Baden-Baden for travellers seeking more than a hotel room – more space, more freedom, and a place with a story to tell. Welcome to the Black Forest Loft A former cigarette factory dating from 1908. A listed industrial building. A design loft with history. And perhaps the most extraordinary way to experience Baden-Baden. Living instead of just sleeping.

  • Between city and Black Forest - Baden-Baden in 3 days

Our guide for three unforgettable days in Baden-Baden in 3 days Kurhaus © Baden-Baden Tourismus GmbH, N. Dautel Baden-Baden isn't a place you tick off your list. It 's a place you experience. Nestled between elegant avenues, historic buildings, and the Black Forest hills, the city unfolds its special charm, especially when you take your time. Time for a leisurely stroll. Time for a long breakfast. Time for a trip to the mountains. Time for an evening that doesn't watch the clock. That's why we recommend our guests visit Baden-Baden for more than just one night. Here's our personal guide for three relaxing days exploring the city and the Black Forest. Day 1 Arriving in Baden-Baden The best way to start your first day is without a plan. From the Black Forest Loft, you can easily reach many of Baden-Baden's most beautiful spots on foot. The Lichtentaler Allee is perfect for a first stroll. The path leads along the Oos River under old trees, past villas, gardens, and small bridges. Later, the Kurhaus (spa building), the Trinkhalle (pump room), and the winding lanes of the old town await your discovery. Take your time. Sit down in a cafe. Observe life. And enjoy the rare feeling of not having to go anywhere. In the evening, numerous restaurants in the city center beckon. Whether you prefer Baden cuisine, Italian classics, or a glass of wine in the courtyard of a wine tavern – Baden-Baden knows how to create enjoyable evenings. Lichtentaler Allee © Baden-Baden Tourismus GmbH, N. Dautel Day 2 A day in the Black Forest Just a few kilometers from Baden-Baden, a different world begins. The road winds its way up through dense fir forests until suddenly Lake Mummelsee appears before you. Nestled among the hills of the Northern Black Forest, the small mountain lake seems almost like something out of a fairy tale. A walk around the lake is just as essential as a break on the sun terrace with a slice of Black Forest cherry cake. Those who enjoy hiking should choose the path up to the Hornisgrinde. The highest mountain in the Northern Black Forest rewards hikers with sweeping views across the Black Forest hills to the Vosges Mountains. After your hike, it's worth taking a look at the small shops around Mummelsee. Fresh farmhouse bread, Black Forest ham, regional cheese, and other specialties are perfect for a relaxing evening in your holiday apartment. Back in the Black Forest Loft, one of our favorite moments begins. The groceries are laid out on the table. The windows are open. The evening sun streams into the room. No restaurant. No schedule. Just a simple, beautiful evening. Day 3 Slow down The third day is yours. Perhaps it begins with a second coffee. Perhaps with a book on the sofa. Perhaps with a visit to the Caracalla Spa or the historic Friedrichsbad. Baden-Baden has the rare ability to slow people down. You discover small boutiques, hidden courtyards, and places where time seems to pass a little more slowly. And that's precisely what makes the difference. While many trips lead from one tourist attraction to the next, something else is created here: tranquility. Caracalla Therme © Baden-Baden Tourismus GmbH More space for your rhythm Many hotels are perfect for one night. Baden-Baden, however, deserves a little more time. A vacation apartment offers the freedom to shape your day as you wish. You can get up earlier or sleep in. You can eat out or cook for yourself. You can explore the Black Forest or simply do nothing for an afternoon. Perhaps that is precisely the greatest luxury of our time: no more structured activities, just more freedom. And that's exactly why we love Baden-Baden. Das Casino © Baden-Baden Tourismus GmbH About Black Forest Loft For many years we have welcomed guests to Baden-Baden and shared personal recommendations for the region in our magazine "Freiraum" – from restaurants to excursion destinations to special places between the city and the Black Forest.

  • Holiday apartment or hotel in Baden-Baden? What's really worth it for your stay?

Ein Ort für ruhige Morgen, lange Gespräche und entspannte Tage in Baden-Baden. More space, more peace and quiet, more of your own rhythm Baden-Baden is not a city you simply visit. You immerse yourself in it. In the Lichtentaler Allee, the elegant facades, the thermal baths, the small cafés, the Festspielhaus, the forests surrounding the city, and that special rhythm between culture, nature, and relaxation. Anyone planning a trip to Baden-Baden will sooner or later ask themselves a very practical question: Should I book a hotel room — or is a holiday apartment the better choice? The answer naturally depends on how you want to travel. If you're only staying one night, arriving late, and leaving early, a hotel room is often perfectly adequate. But if you really want to experience Baden-Baden – for a weekend, a break, a spa stay, a cultural trip, or a few relaxing days in the Black Forest – you'll quickly realize that a vacation apartment can offer significantly more freedom. Arbeiten, frühstücken oder einfach den Tag planen – mit großzügigen Wohnbereichen und einer voll ausgestatteten Küche bietet eine Ferienwohnung die Freiheit, Baden-Baden im eigenen Rhythmus zu erleben. A hotel room is often just a place to sleep. A hotel room serves its purpose. You have a bed, a bathroom, perhaps a small desk, sometimes an armchair. For a short business trip or an overnight stay, that can be perfectly adequate. But as soon as you want to spend more time in the city, your needs change. Perhaps one person gets up earlier than the other. Perhaps you want to enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee in the morning without having to get ready right away. Perhaps after a visit to the spa in the evening, you don't want to go to a restaurant again, but simply walk barefoot around the apartment, have a light meal, listen to music, and unwind. In a hotel room, all of that quickly becomes cramped. In a vacation apartment, on the other hand, you have the space to follow your own rhythm. Living instead of just sleeping The biggest difference between a hotel and a vacation rental isn't the amenities. It's the feeling. A good vacation rental isn't just a room. It's a temporary home. You arrive, put down your bag, open a window, place the key on the table and immediately have more options: sleeping, reading, cooking, working, resting, having breakfast, retreating, spending time together. This is a great advantage, especially in Baden-Baden. The city doesn't invite you to rush through. It thrives on pauses, on walks, on mornings without a fixed plan, on afternoons spent at the Caracalla Spa or the Friedrichsbad, and on evenings at the Festspielhaus, the theater, or a good restaurant. A holiday apartment is suitable for this type of travel because it doesn't dictate how the day has to go. More space for different daily rhythms Many couples are familiar with this situation: one person wakes up early, the other wants to sleep in. In a hotel room, this often means: being quiet, leaving the lights off, waiting in the bathroom, or lying in bed with a mobile phone. It's different in a holiday apartment. Whoever gets up earlier goes into the living room, makes coffee, reads, works briefly on their laptop, or simply enjoys the morning. The other person can continue sleeping in the bedroom. It sounds like a small difference—but it feels huge on vacation. Especially for longer stays, this spatial separation offers a real increase in comfort. Having your own kitchen makes you more independent Of course, good food is an integral part of Baden-Baden. The city offers many lovely restaurants, cafés, and breakfast spots. Nevertheless, it's nice not to have to rely on opening hours, reservations, or hotel buffets for every meal. Having your own kitchen doesn't mean you have to cook constantly on vacation. It means freedom. Ein ruhiger Abend, frische Zutaten vom Markt und Zeit für sich selbst – manchmal sind es die einfachen Momente, die einen Aufenthalt besonders machen. A coffee in the morning. A glass of wine in the evening. Fresh fruit from the market. A small breakfast in pajamas. Something simple after a long day. Or a quiet evening when you're tired of restaurants and crowds. This independence makes a holiday apartment particularly valuable. Parking in Baden-Baden: an often underestimated issue Anyone traveling to Baden-Baden by car quickly realizes that parking in the city center isn't always relaxing. Many hotels offer limited parking or charge extra. Public parking garages are convenient, but not always right outside the hotel. A holiday apartment with its own underground parking space can be a great advantage here. You arrive, park safely, unload your luggage, and don't have to worry about anything else during your stay. Especially if you're planning excursions in the Black Forest or traveling with a lot of luggage, this is a level of comfort that shouldn't be underestimated. Comfortable for short stays, ideal for longer stays A holiday apartment isn't just worthwhile for long trips. Even for two or three nights, the difference can be noticeable. You have more space for clothes, suitcases, jackets, shopping, or swimwear. You can move around more freely. You're not living out of a suitcase. And you don't have to spend every moment outside your accommodation to feel comfortable. This advantage becomes even more apparent for longer stays. Anyone staying in Baden-Baden for a week or longer, perhaps for relaxation, culture, hiking, working from home or a conscious break, will often find a good holiday apartment much more pleasant than a classic hotel room. Privacy and peace Hotels have their own unique atmosphere: reception, breakfast room, hallways, elevators, room service, other guests. This can be pleasant—but sometimes also restless. A holiday apartment offers more privacy. You can come and go as you please. You can have breakfast whenever you like. You can spend the evening as you wish. Without fixed times, without much interaction, without feeling like a guest in a business. For many travelers, this is now an important part of relaxation. When a hotel might be the better choice Nevertheless, a holiday apartment is not always automatically the better decision. A hotel can be a good option if you are only staying for a very short time, want daily room service, need a 24-hour reception, or place great value on a classic breakfast buffet. Those who prefer to have their stay completely organized might feel more comfortable in a hotel. So the question is not: hotel or holiday apartment — which is fundamentally better. The better question is: Which accommodation is better suited to the way I want to experience Baden-Baden? Black Forest Loft: Space, peace and freedom in Baden-Baden The Black Forest Loft in Baden-Baden was created specifically for this type of travel. Our holiday apartments are located in the historic Batschari factory — a special building with industrial history, high ceilings, clear architecture and a great atmosphere. Here you're not just booking a bed. You are booking a room. You are booking peace and quiet. You are booking freedom. Each apartment offers its own unique living experience, high-quality furnishings, more space than a classic hotel room, and the opportunity to experience Baden-Baden at your own pace. Whether for a weekend, a spa stay, a cultural trip, a few days in the Black Forest or a longer break: In the Black Forest Loft you live right in the heart of Baden-Baden — independently, comfortably and with the feeling of having arrived. Conclusion: Holiday apartment or hotel in Baden-Baden? A hotel room is often a good place to spend the night. A holiday apartment is a place to live. Those who are only passing through Baden-Baden briefly will likely find everything they need in a hotel. However, those who want to experience the city more consciously, with more space, more privacy, and a more independent pace, will often find a vacation apartment a more pleasant solution. Because sometimes relaxation doesn't begin in the thermal baths, the park, or the restaurant. Sometimes it begins where you open the door, put down your bag and feel: I am allowed to stay here.

  • From the Black Forest Loft to Mummelsee: Our favorite trip to the Black Forest

Just 35 minutes from Baden-Baden awaits one of the most beautiful spots in the Black Forest: Lake Mummelsee. A trip full of nature, views, and Black Forest delights. A lake straight out of a fairy tale There are places you don't just visit. You experience them. Lake Mummelsee is one of them. Nestled between dark fir forests and the heights of the Northern Black Forest, the small cirque lake lies at an altitude of around 1,000 meters. Even at first glance across the water, one understands why stories and legends have surrounded this place for centuries. Especially on warm summer days, Mummelsee is a wonderful alternative to the heat in Baden-Baden. While temperatures rise down in the city, the air up here is pleasantly fresh. A walk around the lake Those who prefer a leisurely pace should start with the circular path around Mummelsee. The path is almost entirely flat and leads all the way around the lake. New perspectives of the lake and the surrounding forests open up at every turn. The loop takes about 20 minutes and is also ideal for families. Black Forest Cherry Cake with a View A visit to Mummelsee would not be complete without a break on the terrace of the mountain hotel. Here you can enjoy Black Forest cherry cake where it belongs: in the heart of the Black Forest. With a cup of coffee, a view of the lake and fresh mountain air, even an ordinary afternoon suddenly feels like a holiday. Up to the Hornisgrinde Those looking for a bit more exercise should head towards the Hornisgrinde. At 1,164 meters, it is the highest mountain in the Northern Black Forest. The hiking trail starts directly at Mummelsee and leads through heathlands, light forests and over scenic ridges. Once you reach the top, you are rewarded with one of the most beautiful panoramic views in the region. In good visibility, the view is sufficient: across the Rhine plain up to the Vosges Mountains in France and on particularly clear days even as far as the Alps Stop at the Grindehütte Just below the summit lies the Grindehütte. It's a popular meeting place for hikers and offers simple, honest Black Forest cuisine. After the climb, a snack platter, a bowl of soup, or a slice of cake tastes especially good up here. The relaxed atmosphere makes the hut one of the most beautiful rest stops in the Northern Black Forest. Why we love this trip Lake Mummelsee combines everything that makes the Black Forest what it is: Nature Quiet Outlook regional cuisine Movement Slowing down And the best part: it's less than an hour from Baden-Baden. That's why Mummelsee is one of the excursions we consistently recommend to our guests.
